Fred Zara
Assistant Director, Co-Producer
Fred Zara began making movies when he was only 11 years old. Collaborating
with his brother Christopher, the two would create short films and
one act skits with a black and white video camera.
Throughout his teens and early twenties, he played drums with several
musical acts in the Northeast, playing venues in Philadelphia, New
York, and the Jersey Shore. In the late 90s, he relocated to Orlando,
Florida, from Trenton, New Jersey, were he began to study filmmaking
at Orlando's well known, Valencia Community College (VCC).
While attending VCC, he and his brother, Christopher, founded Sketchbook
Productions. After receiving local accolades for their second student
film, Laugh Track, the Zara brothers set out to produce the comedy
short, Skippy Lightfoot's Perfect Day, a dark fable about a luckless
hipster given the chance to experience 24 hours of perfection. Skippy
was a hit with audiences at festivals around the country. A feature-length
version of the film is currently in development and is slated to
begin shooting in 2005.
Fred served as the Stage Manager in the theatre production of The
Waiting Room, and was the Assistant Director and Camera Operator
on several short films including Winning Bidder and The Heist. Fred
completed three student short films while attending VCC. Since then,
he has produced and directed three other short films including Inside-Out
and Entering Wendy, written by his brother and partner, Christopher,
all of which have screened at film festivals around the country.
Inside-Out won a short film contest in Orlando, and took home the
award for Best Cinematography at St. Petersburg's Saints and Sinners
IV Film Festival.
